Description

Brush-Bagnall 300hp 0-4-0 diesel-electric shunter (1st batch) No.3066 of 1954, British Steel Corporation (originally Steel Company of Wales) No.501, on shed at the Abbey Works, Port Talbot, 09/69. Scanned photograph taken with Kowa SET. Designed for lighter duties at SCOW's steel/tinplate works, these locos were built in two batches: 3066-72 of 1954-55, SCOW Abbey Works Nos.501-07, with 300hp National M4AAU6 6-cyl engine; 3096-3103/3120 of 1956, SCOW Trostre Tinplate Works, Llanelli No.1, SCOW Velindre Tinplate Works No.LD1, SCOW Abbey Works Nos.508-14 with 300hp National M4AAU6 engine. Some of both batches were later rebuilt with 335hp Rolls Royce engines.
