Italiano: Pieter Brueghel, da (Breda 1525 c – Bruxelles 1569) Veliero a quattro alberi diretto verso un porto
Bulino originale Misure lastra mm 280 × 210 Pittore, si forma a Bruxelles nella bottega di Pieter van Aelst; l’interesse per l’incisione nasce dalla conoscenza con l’editore ed incisore olandese Hieronymus Cock (1510 – 1570 circa) che lo avvicinerà alla figura e al mondo fantastico di H. Bosch, influenzandone l’operato. La tavola è databile agli anni appena precedenti il 1565, tale data appare infatti su una della serie ma sembra sia da riferirsi all’anno di pubblicazione da parte dell’editore Cock. In lastra in basso al centro si leggono le iniziali del nome dell’autore a cui oggi è attribuita Frans Huys (Olanda 1522 – 1562). Tutti gli undici soggetti che costituiscono la serie derivano da altrettanti disegni di Brughel, oggi tuttavia tutti perduti. Esemplare in III/IV dopo la riduzione della lastra in alto atta ad eliminare l’indirizzo di Cock. Fra le incisioni a tema navale, benché siano noti precedenti editi in Italia ed in Olanda, questa è considerata la meglio riuscita. Ottima impressione, buoni margini.
