Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 32-56 cm; Weight: 2.5-3.9 kg; Identification: The brown capuchin has coarse fur in various shades of brown. Its belly is pale in comparison, and it has black extremities. Its facial pattern is variable; Habitat: Subtropical and tropical forests; Diet: Herbivore: vegetation, fruit, nuts; Reproduction: Capuchins have a polygamous mating system. Females give birth to a single offspring each time they breed; Social Structure: Groups contain 3-15 animals and are organized using a matrilineal dominance hierarchy; Behavior: Grooming is used to maintain social bonds within a group; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Brown capuchins have very specific social structures within their group; because they are known to be quite aggressive towards each other, they have started eating less similar foods where they coexist to reduce competition.
