Description

Recovery Act workers excavate the area outside the Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor to prepare for the installation of an impermeable cap.

Recovery Act workers completed the installation of an impermeable cap over the grounds of a reactor building at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to prevent rain and other moisture from infiltrating radiologically contaminated soil. Installation of the cap is part of broader Recovery Act work at BGRR that involves decommissioning the reactor.
