Brooch fragment - enamelled fantail brooch foot
Description
English: Roman brooch; Cast copper alloy brooch fragment decorated with enamel – foot of brooch only. The fragment consists of a circular boss above a flaring ‘fantail’ style plate. The brooch comes to a slight point at the base. There is a rib running vertically down the back face with the remains of the catchplate at the base of the fragment. The fragment is decorated with a circle in relief on the circular boss. There are then 2 incised horizontal lines separating the boss from the flaring panel. The flared panel is decorated with four small diamond shapes, inlaid with dark blue enamel. Length 33.3mm, width 13.4mm (max), thickness (with catchplate) 5.6mm, thickness (at boss) 2.1mm, weight 4.01g
