Brooch Colchester fragment side
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy Roman bow brooch. Only the lower section of the bow, the foot and the catchplate survive. Two horizontal ribs are visible below the break. The remainder of the surviving bow is undecorated. The foot is D shaped in cross section and is decorated with two horizontal grooves. The catchplate is triangular in plan, the curl of the catchplate survives.

The brooch fragment is in very good condition. It weighs 5.3 grams, has a length of 35.2 mm, and a knop width of 7.1 mm.
