Description
English: Copper alloy disc brooch, conical centre type. Missing pin, part of the rim and the centre of the cone; damaged catchplate. The pin was hinged between two close set lugs. The plate has a 1.7mm thick flange around the outer edge and a 3mm wide 0.5mm thick slightly concave band around the concial area; the edge of the cone is marked only by a fine groove at the change of angle. The cone is hollow at the back. Diameter 23.5mm; surviving cone height 3mm. Hattatt's disc brooch with conical centre or tutulus type (eg no 1068), described as Continental, probably mainly Gaulish type; Riha 1979 has a similar simple eg but with slight rib at change of angle (no. 1584).
