Title

Brooch.

947
Description
English: Knob of a square headed brooch, 2 lugs at back, multiple birds heads. Helen Geake writes: The image attached to this record shows a detachable knob from a florid cruciform brooch. The description appears to belong to this as well and so the entry in the classification field has been changed from 'square headed' to 'cruciform'. The knob is decorated in Style I, with a human mask flanked by a pair of predatory birds' heads. It dates to the sixth century AD.
