Title
Brooch: dragonesque fragment
Description
English: A fragment of a dragonesque brooch dating to the period c. AD 75 to 175.

The object consists of two parts which have been cast in one piece. There is a pointed oval 'ear' which has a central, raised rib running lengthways. There is also a circular 'eye' which has a central raised pellets and border running around the edge, possibly suggesting that this part would have carried enamel. The body of the brooch is missing but it would have been s-shaped with another 'eye' and 'ear' at the other end. It is possible that this fragment is the foot of the brooch.

Similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database including SWYOR-2596D1 and NCL-3EABC0.
