Title |
Bronze age knife |
||
Description |
English: Very small copper alloy 'knife-dagger' with triangular blade. Incomplete broad lozenge shaped tang with half central rivet hole surviving. Relatively good condition (ie few corrosion pocks) and paler colouring at tang end suggest the possible location of a hilt. The flat blade with wide edge bevels has numerous small corrosion pocks, especially on one face. Edges appear relatively worn and corroded. Breaks at the butt are patinated. Blade is patinated medium/dark brown, tang is pale/pale-medium brown. Some of the pocks show pale green corrosion products. Surviving length 36mm, width 22.8mm. Similar in form (although considerably smaller)to examples from Shrewton, Wilts (associated with a pommel and a beaker) and Driffield, Yorks which was associated with a beaker, stone wristguard with gold rivet caps and two amber buttons. Other parallels could probably be found. |
