Title
Bronze Age to Roman awl (incomplete)
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy awl of uncertain date.

The tool takes the form of a square-sectioned rod, broken at the top, the bottom end flattened to create a wedge-shaped terminal. A number of equally-spaced horizontal bands, in the form of lightly incised grooves, cover the surface of the artefact. It is uncertain as to whether these bands are a decorative feature or the result of the production process. The artefact has a dark brownish-green patina, with occasional patches of corrosion.

Dimensions: 29.7mm long, 5.3mm wide (terminal), 4.1mm thick. Weight: 4.06g.

No exact parallel could be found for this piece; however, its patina and general form are indicative of a probable Bronze Age to Roman date.
