Title
Bronze Age to Iron Age unidentified, 'moustache-shaped' object (incomplete)
Description
English: A copper-alloy object of uncertain date and function.

The artefact has a rounded, sub-cylindrical body with a pair of arms extending upwards from the top right- and left-hand corners respectively. These arms curve outwards at the top, each tapering to a point. A rectangular-sectioned, vertical slot is located between the base of the arms, and a corresponding recessed band extends around the surface of the object, dividing it in half. No trace of decoration survives on the heavily corroded surfaces.

Length: 18.9mm; width: 22.3mm; thickness: 12.2mm. Weight: 14.78g.

This is a typical example of the enigmatic 'moustache-shaped' group of objects. A similar piece was found in the Salisbury Hoard, a group of Bronze Age to Early Iron Age metalwork (Stead 1998: no. 117), and notable parallels on the PAS database include SF-520513, SF-B58222, SWYOR-616733 and LIN-9296A3, all of which provide useful discussions as to the possible date and function of these pieces. The current suggested dating for the group is Mid Bronze Age to Early Iron Age.
