Title
Bronze Age socketed spearhead (fragment)
Description
English: A fragment of a copper-alloy socketed spearhead of Bronze Age date.

The piece represents part of the tip area. The circular-sectioned socket extends almost to the end and contains traces of charcoal. Either side of the socket the spearhead tapers towards a thin edge. One of these sides appears to be heavily damaged, while the other seems to be largely intact. The curvature of this intact sides suggests that the implement was fairly short. The tip is rounded, probably as a result of wear through use.

The piece measures 44.9mm long, 14.2mm wide and 7.6mm thick. The weight is 10.61g.

Short, stumpy spearheads of around 100mm in length are recognised by Ehrenburg as being typical of the Ewart Park period of the Late Bronze Age (1977: 15).
