Title
Bronze Age socketed axehead (incomplete)
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy axehead of Late Bronze Age date.

The lower part of the blade and the cutting edge survive, the patination of the break suggesting that the remainder was lost in antiquity. The object is hollow and has been made in a two-piece mould, with the vertical join clearly visible on both of the two narrower faces. Above the convex cutting edge the sides appear to curve outwards; it is uncertain as to whether this is an orignal feature of the axehead or the result of the two wider faces having been squashed inwards.

Dimensions: length: 36.1mm; width: 35.7mm; thickness: 9.2mm. Weight: 30.21g.
