Title
Bronze Age socketed axehead (fragment)
Description
English: A fragment of a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead.

The surviving piece represents the lower part of the implement and is sub-trapezoidal in plan, its concave sides flaring towards a rounded cutting edge. The socket is of rectangular cross section and, like the axehead itself, gradually declines in thickness, towards the bottom. The two narrower surfaces display possible traces of a vertical casting seam. A brownish-green patina is broken by occasional patches of corrosion and by some relatively modern scratches.

Width: 37.3mm; length: 24.6mm; thickness (top): 12.9mm. Weight: 26.92g.
