Title |
Bronze Age socketed axehead (fragment) |
||
Description |
English: A fragment of a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead.
The surviving piece represents the lower part of the implement and is sub-trapezoidal in plan, its slightly concave sides flaring towards a rounded cutting edge. The rectangular-sectioned socket extends to approximately halfway down the remaining piece of the axehead and, as with the implement itself, tapers towards the bottom. A longitudinal casting seam is visible at the centre of both of the two narrower surfaces of the piece. The artefact is corroded in places, with patches of a dark brownish-green patina surviving elsewhere. Length: 31.1mm; maximum width: 37.2mm; maximum thickness (at top): 13.9mm; weight: 33.82g. |
