Title
Bronze Age scraper
Description
English: Knapped flint side scraper made on a secondary flake. It is broadly triangular in plan with a straight proximal edge, one straight retouched side and one more irregular chipped side. There is a very prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral face with a tiny bulb scar. The scars on the dorsal face show previous removals were small and from at least two points on the same platform. There is a small (less than 5%) patch of cortex at the distal end.

The retouch extends around the right side on the dorsal face. It is short, scalar and abrupt becoming longer towards the distal end where the flake is thicker. The other edge is chipped on both faces.

It is 26.5mm long, 25.6mm wide and 6.6mm thick; it weighs 4.57g. The flint is black, the cortex suggests pebble flint but the quality suggests a downland origin.

The thickness of the flake and large bulb of percussion suggests hard hammer working and the width/length ration suggests Bronze Age date, c. 2350 to 800 BC.
