Title
Bronze Age rapier (incomplete)
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy rapier, dating from the Middle Bronze Age.

The tip of the blade has been lost in antiquity and the remaining portion has suffered a further, much more recent, break. The blade is of flattened-lozenge-shaped section, on both sides the surfaces sloping downwards either side of a flat central area. From the handle attachment at the top, the slightly concave sides of the blade converge before becoming parallel. The handle attachment is of flat section, its thickness gradually decreasing towards the top. There are two opposing cut-outs in the side of the attachment, located approximately halfway up, with the remains of a smaller rivet hole at the centre of the uneven top edge. The piece is well patinated and has an almost black surface.

Length: 117.3mm; maximum width (top): 41mm; thickness; 4.9mm; weight: 67g.
