Title
Bronze Age penannular ring
Description
English: A solid-cast gold penannular ring, of 'D-shaped' section, with downward tapering gap between the opposing terminals. Traces of silvery stripes decorate the surface of the object.

Discussion:

Penannular rings with silver-rich banding are a well known artefact type of the Later Bronze Age, with recorded parallels including treasure cases 2005 T373 (Ely, Cambs) and 2005 T 422 (Englefield, West Berks).

Analysis:

Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of penannular ring from Much Haddam, Hertfordshire, indicated a gold content of 77-79%, silver content of 16-17%, with at least 4% copper. The ring weighs 13.85 grams.
