Title
Bronze Age palstave axe fragment.
Description
English: Bronze Age copper alloy palstave axe fragment, with mid rib, cutting end only. Probably did not have a side loop. One of the blade tips is broken off. The other tip is quite splayed, indicating that the axe had been sharpened quite a lot. The metal is pitted with little of the original surface remaining. The axe would have been broken in antiquity, possibly for inclusion in a metal worker's hoard. Probably c.1500-1300BC, Acton-Taunton type of metalwork. Length 49.01mm, width (from blade tip to tip) 45.92mm, thickness 13.33mm, weight 96.35g.
