Title
Bronze Age metal working debris
Description
English: A cast copper alloy ingot or 'cake' probably dating from the Bronze Age period. The object is sub-oval in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. One surface of the object is flat and smooth although pitted. The other faces of the object are irregular in form and with larger pits.

The molten copper alloy would have been poured into a mould, and allowed to cool until it was solid. The undulating lower surface represents the formation of air pockets. The colour, texture, shape and formation of the ingot suggests that it may date from the Bronze age period, however without metallurgical analysis it is difficult to date the ingot precisely and it may be more recent. The object has a mid brown patina.
