Title
Bronze Age flint scraper
Description
English: A flint scraper, possibly Bronze Age, dating to 2500-800 BC. In plan the object is a broad leaf shape, with an irregular sub-trapezoidal cross section. The dorsal face has a pronounced raised bump at its centre, with 6 flake removal scars, a small sub-rectangular scar at the top of the bump and the one above it leading into the point are concave, the other scars are more convex. The blows which removed these flakes came from different directions. The distal end of the left mesal edge has been damaged, the flake has been retouched at the proximal end of the right mesal edge, with short, parallel and abrupt retouch. At the proximal end there is a negative hinge fracture which has been partially worked away. On the ventral face at the proximal end (on the reverse of the hinge fracture) are traces of what seems to have been a relatively large bulb of percussion, with pronounced ripples coming away from it. The ventral face is unworked, and is covered in a cloudy white patina, this has been cut into by a damage on the right mesal edge which has resulted in the loss of a conchoidal flake. The flint is otherwise a dark brown/grey colour, with patches of solid grey and with a cloudy white patina (which is more pronounced on the ventral face).

Length: 30.1mm, Width: 30.5mm, Thickness: 10.1mm, Weight: 8.36g.

Although it is difficult to date a single flint, its squat shape and the multiple striking angles may suggest a Bronze Age date.
