Description |
English: Early Bronze Age cast copper alloy flat axe, c.2100-1700BC. Rounded narrow butt end, expands gradually and flares slightly after the centre to the blade end. Blade end, including the corners, damaged, no cutting edge survives. Very low ridge or flange (less than 0.5mm high) along the side edges on one face (other face's edges damaged). Slightly convex sides where surviving. Longitudinal striations from sharpening on one surface of the blade; the other surface is damaged. Fine mid green patina with numerous large and small pits and some light green and blue-green corrosion. Length 102.2mm, width at blade end 44.9mm, width at butt end c.18mm, max thickness (across centre) 10.3mm, weight 160.9g. |
