Title
Bronze Age developed flat axe.
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy developed flat axe of Early to Middle Bronze Age. This flanged example is characteristic of the Arreton Park metalwork assemblage.

The object has straight sides and a flared cutting edge with concave shoulders. The cutting edge is crescentric in plan and worn. The sides of the cutting edge are rounded due to wear and damage. The cutting edge measures 2.93mm in thickness.

The flanged sides which are damaged give the artefact a rounded 'H-shaped' cross section. There is a slight stop ridge 59.75mm from the cutting edge. The axe measures 27.02mm in width and is 14.13mm thick at the slight stop ridge. The butt end measures 20.27mm in width and is 3.37mm thick. The butt which is narrow, incomplete and rounded was damaged in antiquity.

The object has a dark brown patina in places. Where this has broken away the object is mottled dark brown and mid-green in colour.

Similar examples can be found on p127 Rohl & Needham, (1998).
