Title
Bronze Age developed flat axe.
Description
English: Early Bronze Age developed flat axe, Arreton industrial phase, c.1700-1500BC. Wide blade (in relation to the body/butt), both tips slightly damaged, so unable to tell if there were blade tip hollows. The edge bevel starts at 21mm from the centre of the cutting edge, arching from the ends of the flanges. Striations, concentric with the cutting edge, visible on the more intact blade surface. No side nicks at the junction of the haft end with the blade. Slight stop bevel on both surfaces (at c.26mm behind edge bevel, 38mm from butt end). Very low flanges (c.1mm high). Butt end damaged, but apparently slightly convex; butt corners damaged. Convex sides with no casting flashes. Fine blue-ish green patina, some pitting, particularly on septum and blade (on one side most of the blade surface is gone). Length 87.07mm, width across cutting edge 49.05mm, width at stop 21.0mm, width at butt end 16.5mm, max thickness (across flanges at stop) 11.4mm, thickness across stop 10.2mm, height of flanges c.1mm, weight 105.6g.
