Title |
Bronze Age casting jet |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy casting jet of probable Mid to Late Bronze Age date.
The uppermost part of the object consists of an inverted-sub-conical plug. The lower end of this plug bifurcates into circular-sectioned arms, each with a vertical, flat outer face. Length: 26.9mm; width: 28.8mm; depth: 21mm; weight: 28.63g. Casting jets are waste products which form at the top of a two-piece clay mould when the molten metal has filled the object-shaped void below. As they represent re-usable metal, they were often retained and regularly turn up in founder's hoards of the period (see, for example, 2006 T36, from Devon). |
