Title
Bronze Age Palstave or Socketed axe (fragment)
Description
English: A fragment of a copper-alloy Palstave or Socketed axe of middle to late Bronze Age date.

The piece consists of the lower part of the blade and the cutting edge. At the point where the break has occurred, the axe measures 30.9mm wide by 6.8mm thick. As the thickness decreases towards the cutting edge, the width increases, reaching a maximum of 42.8mm. There are no casting seams visible along the edges but the general form of the fragment strongly suggests that it is of middle to late Bronze Age date, rather than being part of an earlier Bronze Age Flat axe.

The length of the piece is 27.7mm and the weight is 31.22g.
