Title
Bronze Age Palstave
Description
English: A cast copper alloy palstave of Middle Bronze Age date. The unlooped palstave measures 120mm in length by 62.8mm (width across cutting edge) by 30.6mm and weighs 307g. The widely splayed cutting edge is crescentic with well-defined slightly squared blade tips. The butt is slightly expanded and the end is damaged with a small part missing. The stop ridge is squared and the side flanges are rounded and taper to a point at the butt end. This palstave is an example of the Acton Park 'shield-pattern' type.
