Title
Bronze Age Palstave
Description
English: A cast copper alloy single looped palstave axehead of later Middle Bronze Age date (Taunton tradition). Only two stubs of the loop survive, but the palstave is otherwise complete, although the surface is very pitted and some of the edges are damaged. The palstave measures 132mm in length and the width of the fairly widely splayed cutting edge, which is damaged, is 42.1mm. The width of the butt, which is also damaged, is 19mm. At the widest point, which is in the centre where the flanges start, the palstave measures 27.8mm. It weighs 230.16g. The blade is flat, but there is a casting seam along the centre of the sides of the blade and flange. The stop ridge is slightly rounded on both sides.
