Title
Bronze Age Flanged axehead
Description
English: An Early Bronze Age flanged axehead. Record made from photograph only, dimensions and weight not recorded. The flanged sides of the axe appear to have been cast and follow the sides as they start to curve into the backs of the blade. The sides diverge gradually before splaying out dramatically into a broad, crescentic blade. A transverse median ridge is visible midway along each side and there is also a slight, curved ridge as the sides widen into the blade. The axehead has a fine brown patina but the tip of one end of the blade is lost. It is also suffering from bronze disease, surface fragments of the blade, butt and flanges are missing. Similar axes are known from Llanarmon-dyffryn-ceiriog, Denbighshire and Llanblethian, Glamorgan (Savory, 1980) but a very similar example is LVPL-0D11D2 from Rainow, Cheshire, so further examples may be found in this locality rather than north Wales.
