Description
English: Broken cast copper alloy double-loop or spectacle oval buckle frame which has a flat base and a convex profile. One of the loops of the frame has been sheared off at the edge of the mouldings on either side of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and triangular in section and the pin is missing. There is a moulded sexfoil knop, which resembles an acanthus leaf, on the outer edge of the loop that survives. The sides of the frame are concave and also have a moulded cinquefoil knop at either end of the strap bar. 
The remaining loop is 25 mm in length and 25.8 mm in width and 2.4 mm in thickness. The strap bar is 13 mm in length and 2.2 mm in thickness. The broken frame weighs 5.03g.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on p.65, No.403, which is dated to c.1550-1650.
