Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 17 February 2008. Broken pavements in Park View Road, Tottenham.

(Top photo facing south. Bottom, facing north.)

Near the entrances to Down Lane Park in Park View Road, the paving stones were broken; and in some places loose and potentially dangerous.

Although my request for urgent pavement repair was turned down, between September and November 2009 pavements were renewed on both sides of Park View Road between Tamar Way and Dowsett Road.

In 2007, Help the Aged launched a "Dangerous Pavements Campaign". They point out that, as people become older, falls - at home or on the street - are literally a matter of life or death. For over-75s falls are a leading cause of mortality.

Many elderly or disabled residents suffer fractures from falls. These cause great pain and can take months to heal. A fall in the street may rob someone of confidence and undermine their independence. They're nervous of a walk to the shops or the bus.

Many pavements across Haringey are damaged - sometimes far worse than these.

Click here to find out the main cause; and why it's not enough simply to repair or replace damaged pavements as they were before.
