Die Nordhausen-Wernigeroder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft reihte mit den Nummern 11 bis 22 zwölf Mallet-Lokomotiven in ihren Bestand ein. Ab 1950 wurden die Lokomotiven durch die Deutsche Reichsbahn als Baureihe 99.590 bezeichnet. Kurz nach dem Gründungsjahr wurde 1897 die zweite Baureihe für die NWE von Arnold Jung in Jungenthal gebaut. Es war eine Mallet. Die NWE reihte sie als NWE 11 ein. Sehr schnell wuchs der Bestand auf 12 Loks, davon neun von Jung und drei von der Mecklenburgische Maschinen- und Waggonbau AG in Güstrow gebaut. Die Lokomotiven waren sehr zuverlässig. Mitte der 1950er Jahre kamen Neubauloks (99.23-24) zur Harzquerbahn. Daher wurden die Malletlokomotiven nicht mehr benötigt und kamen zur Selketalbahn. Zwei Malletlokomotiven wurden verschrottet: 99 5905 im Jahr 1975 und 99 5904 im Jahr 1990. Die anderen drei Loks blieben im Bestand. 99 5901 und 99 5903 wurden wieder im historischen Grün mit gelben Verzierungen lackiert. Außerdem bekamen sie wieder ihre historischen Nummern: NWE 11 und NWE 13II. Lok 99 5902 besaß bei der NWE zuletzt die Bezeichnung NWE 12III und war ebenfalls zwischenzeitlich grün lackiert, ist nun aber wieder in schwarz unterwegs |
