July 10th, 2022 10:00AM High of 90 degrees Fahrenheit Low of 67 degrees Fahrenheit 78 degrees Fahrenheit at capture On a sunny, hot day, a friend and I visited a cypress swamp in search of snakes. To our surprise the entire swamp appeared to have dried up, though realistically it was only dry as far as we could walk before the vegetation was too thick. We did eventually find a small slough adjacent to the swamp, intersected by a trail, which still held water. In this slough were numerous frogs and watersnakes, including this impressive broadband. In a 30 minute period, we took opposite sides of the slough and chased this watersnake from one side to the other until I was finally able to grab it. This snake bit me more viciously than any before it, at least 10 times before I released it. On several occasions I had to clean my blood off of the snake. Stoddard County, Missouri |
