Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Broad-leaved Helleborine (Epipactis helleborine) - an orchid This species is by far the most common of the helleborines in Scotland, yet, overall, it is still an uncommon flower. It can tolerate a wider range of habitats than the other helleborines, and it therefore has a wider geographical range. This photo shows the one-sided inflorescence that is a characteristic of this species. The upper part of the stem will often be seen to be covered in fine hairs, as was the case here. The colour of the flowers varies, but this specimen is fairly typical: the inside of the flower is mostly greenish, with some pink, while the lip of the flower (which, in the helleborines, consists of two parts) is tipped with purple.
