Notes Text sewn on four cords. The frontispiece Illustration is plate I of XII. Yellow paper over boards. The upper and lower endpapers and pastedowns are printed with publisher’s titles. The lower cover has a list of Lovell Reeve’s “Popular Natural Histories.” The upper cover is printed in colours. It shows a goldfinch standing on a nest containing five eggs, surrounded by foliage. There is a “branch-like” frame printed on the borders. From head to tail, the lettering is:”/ One shilling/ British/ Birds’ Eggs/ & Nests/ by the Rev. J. C. Atkinson./ Illustrated./” The imprint is at the tail. The word: “Dalziel” is printed in the bottom left hand corner. The spine is printed in colours. At the head, a bird in flight is depicted. The title: “Birds Eggs and Nests” are printed in green along its length. A nest and “1/-“ [one shilling] are printed at the base of the spine. Another (probable) copy of this work is at Shelf mark W50/7626 and 7284.a.12.
