Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Double deck buses in the United Kingdom were originally only permitted to have open "platforms" for passengers to board and alight. In the 1950s it became allowed for them to have doors, but only on condition that a second "emergency" door was also provided. Eastern Coach Works put the emergency door in the rear of the bus, which was adjacent to the ordinary platform doors as illustrated here on VDV 752. This was a Bristol LDL chassis built in 1957 for Western National but seen here operating for Quantock Motor Services on their 400 Exmoor Explorer route from Minehead.
