Description

c/n 13237 Built 1957 for British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) as G-AOVT. In March 1964 she was leased to British Eagle and was converted to a freighter in 1968. British Eagle ceased trading in November 1968 and she was returned to BOAC. In 1970 she was purchased by Monarch and leased to Donaldson International Airways. She later flew with IAS Cargo Airlines, Invicta, IAC Cargo Airlines of Zaire (registered as 9Q-CAZ) and finally Merchant Air of New Zealand. Sold to the RAF Museum and flown to Cosford on 31st May 1984. In 1985 she was repainted in genuine BOAC colours as part of the British Airways Collection, but when the Collection was disbanded she remained at Cosford and has now been painted to represent an RAF Britannia C.1 ‘XM497’ “Schedar”.
