Summary
[edit]DescriptionBrindley Place - geograph.org.uk - 556475.jpg |
English: Brindley Place Named after James Brindley, famous for his canals which enabled Birmingham's massive growth during the Industrial Revolution. Up until the 1760s this was open countryside on the west side of the town which was developed for industrial use in the 1800s.
Regeneration of this 26 acre site started in 1993 with buildings housing offices and apartments with a lively mix of shops, restaurants and cafes at street level. The main building seen here is a pastiche of Norman/Gothic arches on ground floor and Moorish influences near the top. In 1995 the development won the first International waterfront award others since include Sydney, NY, Boston (USA) and Amsterdam. |
