Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Briggate Watermill What remains of it. Recently the new owner of this ruined mill and an area of land on the other side of the road, which used to form the mill dam, moved in a digger and started to clear the surrounding area of its vegetation - consequently threatening what is believed to be the only known habitat in England of the endangered black water vole. Briggate watermill was also known as Worstead Mill. Its most extended version used to be three storeys high and originally consisted of weatherboarding set onto a wooden frame, built into the brick base of the ground floor, which was replaced by corrugated iron cladding. Once the mill had three locums; an eight foot six inches head of water drove a breastshot wheel that was 14 feet in diameter and 6 feet wide. The mill once employed 12 workers, with only one left when it closed in 1969. For more information and historical photos see: http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Watermills/briggate.html
