| Description | This bridge beam was made with self-consolidating concrete (SCC) and was part of an FHWA, Highways for LIFE supported South Carolina DOT project to replace four consecutive structurally deficient bridges. The project used innovative technologies and contracting and staged construction (PBES, SCC, A+B+C contract bidding, route management). The construction time was reduced from 28 to 14 months. Added costs for innovative contracting were made up as highway users saved about $6.9 million. |
