| Description |
English: Bridge, Three Bridge Mill near Twyford This view looking south is of one of the bridges over Padbury Brook at Three Bridge Mill. A more recent bridge to the east, off camera to the left, carries a C road from Buckingham in the north towards Edgcott. A small industrial park for a wide variety of businesses is behind the camera. This bridge could well be the bridge referred to in the Buckingham Advertiser of 22 January 1881 at the time of The Great Snow Storm, when a pauper had an unfortunate journey to his grave. Despite the appalling weather, the Master of the Union Workhouse had dispatched a porter with a hearse and a corpse for burial at Edgcott. The hearse became stuck at Three Bridge Mill and was only with difficulty manoeuvred off the bridge to the Three Bridge Inn, where it remained in the care of the landlord until the weather improved. Incidentally, the inn which is on the other side of the bridge and is shown on OS maps as a public house, now appears to a private residence. |
