| Description |
English: Brick building on rifle range. This small brick building is located in a trench and adjoined by a section of brick wall > 1018370 which ends in another brick structure a short distance further to the north.
During WWI Cawston heath was used for rifle practice and perhaps this building originates from that time. The earth mound where soldiers fired at numbered targets can still be seen - the number to fire at was indicated by a courageous volunteer sitting in a trench near the mound. The area is still in use as a rifle range and the ground is littered with debris from clay pigeon shooting. |
