Description
Deutsch: Als Geotop und Naturdenkmal geschützte Karstquelle der Brenz entspringt in einer Schichtmulde des zuckerkörnigen Massenkalks des Weißen Jura, Untere Felsenkalk-Formation (ki2), in Königsbronn, östliche Schwäbische Alb. Der Fluss war als Ur-Brenz aus dem nördlichen Keupervorland kommend erheblich länger und hat ein geologisch sehr hohes Alter. Der Quelltopf ist zwecks Stromgewinnung ein angestauter See und gilt als einer der schönsten in Baden-Württemberg. Die stark schwankende Quellschüttung ist mit durchschnittlich 1200 l/s groß, denn das westlich liegende Einzugsgebiet ist mit ca. 800 km2 sehr groß.

English: Protected Geotope and Natural monument karst spring of the Brenz, rest of the much longer „Ur-Brenz“ (tributary of the Donau) at Königsbronn, Swabian Alb. The spring is impounded to generate electric power and considered to be one of the most beautiful karst springs in Germany. The spring’s yield varies drastically. The average yield of 1200 l/s is enormous as the westerly catchment area of ca. 800 km2 is extremely extensive.
