Description

Le Tyran quiquivi (Pitangus sulphuratus) est une espèce de passereau de la famille des Tyrannidae. C'est la seule espèce du genre Pitangus. Le nom latin de genre Pitangus vient de pitanguá, nom donné à l'oiseau par les Amérindiens Tupi-guarani. C'est un des oiseaux les plus populaires du Brésil. Son chant trisyllabique permet de l'identifier facilement. Il est aussi à l'origine de son nom vernaculaire dans bien des langues : bem-te-vi (Brésil), kiskadi (Portugal), kiskadee (en anglais). Son chant peut toutefois être bisyllabique ou monosyllabique. The great kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus) is a passerine bird. It is a large tyrant flycatcher; sometimes its genus Pitangus is considered monotypic, with the lesser kiskadee (P. lictor) separated in Philohydor.

It breeds in open woodland with some tall trees, including cultivation and around human habitation, mainly found in Belize, and from the Lower Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas and northern Mexico south to Uruguay, but also it occurs all over Venezuela and Brazil (specially the central and south-southeastern regions), Paraguay and central Argentina, the Guyana coastline
