Object history
English: There isn't just one family with this surname, because it's religious in nature. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the names of the Magi were widely used and the families with the surname Reis derived from them. João José dos Reis, born on 11 May 1820, Councillor to the King, nobleman of the Royal House, Commander of the Order of Christ in Portugal and Brazil, was appointed Viscount on 5 June 1873 and elevated to Count of São Salvador de Matosinhos by Decree of 29 January 1880. The corresponding arms were described by the Viscount of Sanches de Baena and belong to his descendants.
