Description
Français : Sculpture représentant le massacre des saints Innocents ; dans dans l’Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Brantôme, à Brantôme, (Dordogne, France).
Cette sculpture représente Saint-Sicaire
L'oeuvre est datée du tout début du XXème siècle, et la femme qui protège l'un des saints innocents durant le Massacre des Innocents peut évoquer la figure de la marianne française (Rappel : les saints innocents sont les enfants de moins de 2 ans tués sur l'odre d'Hérode selon la Bible).
Deux bas-reliefs de bois, dans le coeur de l'abbatiale évoquent aussi ce sujet. Saint-Sicaire est le patron de la commune. Un os de son crâne aurait été confié aux premiers moines de Brantôme par Charlemagne, et est toujours présent dans le reliquaire de l'abbatiale.
