Summary
[edit]DescriptionBrackenfield Well Dressing 2004 - geograph.org.uk - 314347.jpg |
English: Brackenfield Well Dressing 2004 Stretton Handley Primary School's contribution to the 2004 Brackenfield well dressing. Well dressing is a Derbyshire custom to give thanks for a clean water supply. Although originally a pagan festival, Christian churches also celebrate it. This 5ft high well dressing consists of four wooden frames filled with clay. A wide variety of natural materials have been pressed into the clay to make the design. Four or five different designs are placed around the village during the May Spring Bank Holiday every year. |
