Description |
Information on the back of the photograph reads: 'Son of A.J. Jewett, whose Father, Mother , Grandfather and Grandmother were massacred at Garden City, Minnesota, 1865. This boy was taken by the heels and his head beaten against a log and left for dead. He was found unconscious by my Uncle, Dr. J.W.B.W., who assisted in doctoring his wounds.' See also this file of the location of the massacre, describing it as follows: "Andrew Jewett's farm, where his Father and Mother, himself and wife and young Tyler were massacred by the Indians at the Garden City, 1865. A.J. Jewett was born in Boston and studied law with Lawyer Wells, formerly Governor of Maine." A little more information about the event here and here where it states the boy was named William Jewett. He was two at the time of the attack. He died in 1910 after a car accident (here).
