English: "Say, Arch! Are you alive?"
"Alive? I should say so, though dear knows how long either of us will be," was the reply of Archie Ryan, as he leaped from the hard packed earth which formed the floor of a curious, dome-shaped hut. "Upon my word, Hal, I believe I've been asleep after all." "So I have I. It must be morning. There is another day before us, and the question is, what is to happen next?" A thrilling tale of travel and adventure, Through an Unknown Land; or, The Boy Canoeists of the Quanza by Allan Arnold in Pluck and Luck magazine No. 933, April 19, 1916. This is one of at least three printings of The Boy Canoeists of the Quanza by Allan Arnold. Allan Arnold was a "house name" or pseudonym. Some sources attribute authorship of this story to H. K. Shackleford (1840 – 1906). Read an interesting biography of Shakleford, best remembered for the Fred Fearnot character, at Yesterday's Papers: john-adcock.blogspot.com/2012/02/h-k-shackleford-fred-fea... This story initally appeared in Pluck and Luck No. 129, circa 1900, in Pluck and Luck No. 933, April 19, 1916, as seen here, and again in the February 13, 1929 issue of Pluck and Luck, No. 1602. See a scan of the 1929 Pluck and Luck No. 1602 re-issue (during the final months of the magazine's publication) here: freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tullis/FredFea...
